Many of these tasks are things we can all do, or learn to do; many are also shared among participants during the year. If ever you want to take part in a task, but don't know how, don't hesitate to ask around and find someone to show you.

planning & coordinating

  • plan ahead: think about what is going to be needed in the next month, season, year, five years, and then bring that to the group for discussion and then action: make sure decisions are remembered, take note if action not carried through and make sure necessary work gets done
  • Scolding
  • keeping everyone in contact via email, phone, mail
  • record jobs that need doing

ongoing tasks

  • fill shower tank above sauna
  • clear brushwood, deadfall, storm damage, excess trees (check with Ken, Claude B)
  • check inventory, make shopping lists, go shopping
  • clean the outhouse
  • teach new people where buildings are and what they are called and which are "public" or "private," how to use the stoves, fill the roof cistern, use the water heater and wood- stove in the erection, how to sanitise kitchen and dishes, how to use & not use outhouse, the well, when to wear boy clothes, how circles work, how YoooHoos work, what water to drink and what not to
  • check & change propane for stoves, Coleman lamps
  • cut small wood for kindling and short lengths for water heater
  • initiate, prepare, conduct rituals (opening circle, closing circle, work and heart circles, memorials, appreciations, etc)
  • clean ashes out of fire pit & stoves, take COLD ashes in metal buckets to outhouse for use there
  • sweep and mop Erection floor
  • mow paths and open areas, esp near Erection
  • rake mown and cut areas
  • check Hotmail account (Chip)
  • be the Money Bitch
  • web pages (Chip, Bill)
  • moderate mailing list (Chip, others)
  • check on Reflecting Pond, make sure dam is OK and soil hasn't been to trampelled
  • care for gardens and cleared areas (check with Chip, Ken)
  • take bags of trash and recyclables to barn for storage, then by truck to dump
  • check water tanks for rust, damage, debris
  • put sticks in rain barrels so anything that falls in can climb out, not drown and rot
  • *before* people sit down to eat at large meals, prepare the washstand with hot soap water, bleach water and rinse water
  • remind people to wash their own dishes
  • Purse, banking, ledger, cash-flow (Ken and Claude J)
  • while working, make spaces for other people to step in to help, learn, create fun
  • always keep on hand: dish soap, washing soda, kerosene, scrubbing brushes, broom, toilet paper, dish towels and washing cloths, candles, votive candles, paring knives
  • daily during gatherings (usually AM): boil kitchen cloths in washing soda, put out clean ones daily
  • make sure people put their names on the gathering mailing list, esp. if they're new

pre-gatherings

  • get extra saw blades for swede saws, make sure clippers, axe, pruning shears, gardening implements are accessible for people to work with
  • check kitchen inventory, annual clearout of spoiled stuff
  • organise a splitter
  • check bridges to Path of Snake, outhouse
  • set up the Addiction
  • wash, clean, organise Boutique
  • clear around Ancestor Rock
  • scour and bleach Erection cooking surfaces, utensils
  • set up the washstand and drying rack area

post-gatherings

  • wash towels, drag, kitchen cloths
  • prepare Erection to be unattended until fall gatherette
  • take down the Addiction, store in/under Erection
  • send out gathering mailing list

larger projects

  • clear out accumulated junk in barns & tractor shed (needs 1/2 ton truck)
  • replace unstable floors in barns
  • meintain pump & water system
  • make repairs to Studio
  • maintain chinking on sauna
  • raise shower tank
  • scrape & paint Erection
  • fundraise & build Gazebo
  • repair/replace big windows on Erection

annually

  • tree transplanting (spring gathering)
  • prune fruit trees & vines (autumn gathering)
  • check road; fill potholes with sand dug from hill behind old outhouse; does it need regravelling?; clear obstructing trees/brush
  • prepare gathering call, prepare mailing list, send out to mailing list
  • check Erection for insect damage, poison as required
